im swallowing my pride

today was an amazing day. it was absolutely beautiful! i was finally able to wear one of my summer dresses that i bought. after the first few days in london i was afraid that i would be stuck in jeans and shoes all summer due to the rain. well today we had class again. its great not having class thursday-saturday, it makes it seem like class last week was forever away. for class we were suppose to read two different books--one was an elective history book that we chose and the other one is assigned. the one that we selected we are suppose to read it and then do a short presentation on it. i hated my book! it was so boring. i tried so hard to read that thing but i could only last a few pages before i got bored and would fall asleep. especially before i left for london i could not bring my self to read that thing. but i made about half way and on saturday i discovered that i was suppose to do my presentation today! i thought it was pretty humorous. so after i learned that i skipped to the last chapter and then took a few notes and some interesting facts i found throughout that book. so today in class i gave my presentation and no one even knew that i have only read half of it and that i hated it too! i was happy that i was able to pull that off. class today wasnt too bad. we started off with the history class which is great, we went over the medieval ages which i loved! im glad i took my medieval class last year, it was probably one of my most favorite classes that i have taken in college. but then we had our varieties of english class and that one sucked. we went over old english today--about verbs and nouns and pronouns. i dont even understand verbs in regular english, let alone old english! but im just glad that don wont be grading us too hard. during class we got tickets to go to the tower of london, and we were planning on going but since we needed to go grocery shopping and be back for wicked we decided to wait and go tomorrow when we dont have a time constraint.

so instead of going there, cathy, m'kynzi, lillie and i decided to go to portobello road! so fun! well we got there and it took us forever to get to the main shops and markets on portobello road but it was still fun to walk down it and see cute houses. i was tempted to buy a few things but resisted. im afraid that my stingy-ness and inability to make decisions might cost me with coming home without too much. but i did buy some good fruit from one of the stands. then we went home and went to the best place ever--sainsbury's to go grocery shopping. we looked so ridiculous going to the grocery store because we bring our back packs so we can load up our food in there when we have to walk all the way home. but i got some good food, and better food so i dont have to only eat pb&j sandwiches. then we came home in time to eat and off to see WICKED.

so im swallowing my pride and saying it...i LOVED it instead of denying it. i know i have had apprehensions and said i never wanted to see it but i was so good! i just got back about an hour ago from the show. it was at the Apollo Theater, so not so far away. and we had AMAZING tickets. i dont know how with such a big group we got such good seats but we did. i was sitting on the 10th row and just off to the left of the stage. the set, costumes, and music were all so amazing! the lady that played the wicked witch had the best voice that i have ever heard, it literally gave me chills when she sang. the only annoying part about it was that i didnt like about the play was that they made glenda be so dumb and annoying. i love her in the movie and think she is so pretty and wonderful, and they kinda ruin that in the play. another thing i loved about the play was the guy that played the prince was so hot!! i loved watching him dance and sing. i wish i could fall in love with him. i really was hoping that the actors would come out so we could see them afterwards cause i wanted my picture taken with him, but unfortunately that didnt happen. so i am really glad i saw it and can finally understand why my roomies were obsessed but i dont think i will be as crazy about it as they were. we found out today that we are getting spending money to see a play, so i think we are going to see les miserables next week. i also want to see either hair spray or mama mia.

another funny thing that happened today is that we stole magazines. haha. we were walking to class and there was a huge stack of magazines like vogue, harpers bazaar etc just sitting outside next to all of this trash. so we picked up a stack before and after class. it is great to have them around so we can read it while we eat. that reminds me--even though our flat isnt the greatest, we live in such a nice area of london. we live right next to a bunch of embassies and there are always nice cars parked outside. like mercedes, bmw, audi and any other nice car you can think of. so with that and the fact that our maid came today and cleaned our whole flat i feel like i am living a posh lifestyle in london. i think that is all for today. all day long i think of all these things that i want to write down, but by the end of the day i forget it all. i guess i should be writing it down as i think of it. well tomorrow we have class and then we are going to hit up the tower of london and westminster abbey. im very excited for that, especially the crown jewels. i remember that that was amazing.

Leigh, Have you noticed that I am usually the first to comment. This is due to the fact that I do need a life because I'm checking your blog and my email non stop. You have a maid????? And you tried to convince us that you wanted to be one. I'm glad you enjoyed wicked. I rather liked Glenda. MOM

Vindicated.
Finally you understand why I love WICKED so much. At least when a song from this musical comes on now, you will not roll your eyes too much. Haha.
Totally loving the commentary and the chance to get a small view into your London life. And there is much to update you on. Got home from OC today and off to Seattle tomorrow so my time is currently limited. Look forward to an email soon.
Loves.

haha i knew that i would be pretty much mocked by whitney and lindsay for all of the grief that i have said about wicked. i think i actually might be looking forward to listening to the music now with you.

you realize that wicked is in fact a book and not based on the wizard of oz movie, right? glenda, or galinda, totally transforms in the book. her and elfaba turn into really good friends and then the book is a mess of history and political turmoil, so i really think you should appreciate the musical and be glad you didn't read the book. that said, now i really don't feel bad for you and your flat since you have a maid. well, i guess you have always had a maid, her name just happened to be mom. and i love portobello road. it's real close to BYU's London Centre. i definitely think it was nice to have our meals made for us at the centre even though some of them were weird. i'm glad you're having fun. advice for les mis if you go. DON'T get the absolute cheapest tickets. we did and we sat so high that we couldn't even see who was singing and i could see the people moving around behind the sets. totally disappointing. that theatre is really steep, so spend a few pounds more. and you know about how some theatres let you get their best leftover seats for like 10 pounds if you show your international student id and show up like 30 minutes before the show right?

i second kelly on the les mis tickets. the theater is SO steep i felt like i was going to fall off a cliff - and we sat pretty high up too. i can't believe you admitted you loved wicked. you are all growns up.
